The Wirecutter Crowns the iPad Mini "Best Tablet"
The iPad mini is the best tablet to get and lets be honest, it's way better than the full sized iPad for nearly everyone. I'd even go so far as to say that the full sized iPad is plain obscene after using the mini.
I tried out the iPad Mini this weekend. My first impression is that it blows my iPad 2 out of the water. The screen may not be Retina, but it's much better than the iPad 2, without the heft and heat of a Retina iPad.
The iPad always felt a little clunky to me. Too heavy to hold up for any length of time, but much harder to prop up than a laptop. The iPad Mini is about as thin and light as a Kindle. I could easily see holding it upright for long enough to watch a movie.
The only thing holding me back from the Mini is price. $320 still feels just a little high. Granted, I could sell my iPad 2, pick up the Mini, and probably have money left over.
On the other hand, the 16GB Nexus 7 is only $200, and in some ways is better than the iPad Mini. But I would miss Airplay, iCloud, and all the other joys of the Apple ecosystem.
For now, I think I'll hold onto my iPad 2. I think we'll see a drop in the Mini's price sooner than later.
